NYC Launch Event

Come along and find out more about Newport Youth Council. We have arranged a day of fun and information with DJs, Breakdancing, T-Shirt printing, Inflatafun and Sports sessions

The event will see the official launch of the Newport Youth Council’s website and provides an opportunity to meet members of NYC.
Its open to all and it's free.

 

 

Local Democracy Week 17-23 October

Young people in Newport will get the chance to have their say on how local services are run at a special meeting taking place this week. The Newport Youth Council will meet in the council chamber at the civic centre on Thursday 20th October where they will address councillors on the issues affecting young people in the city.

The agenda has been set by the Newport Youth Council and the meeting will be chaired by the mayor of Newport, Councillor Ken Critchley. He will be joined by other elected members who will join young people in discussing issues concerning leisure, transport, the environment and anti-social behaviour. It is intended that the meeting is the first of many in which young people will get the chance to air their views and concerns to the council.
The meeting has been arranged as part of Local Democracy Week which takes place nationally and aims to engage young people in the local democratic process. Councillor Critchley said: "I am delighted to be able to chair this meeting which we hope will be the first of many between members and the Newport Youth Council. "It is important we give young people the opportunity to pursue and achieve a voice on local matters which affect them."
